Choosing a good stand from the variety of the bird cage stands available is vital to ensure the safety of the bird. The smaller hanging cage stands for finches and canaries that hang from the top is a great choice for bird owners who have cats. This keeps the birds out of the reach of the cat without providing a place for the cat to climb.

The bigger bird cages need a wider area to support the cage. Many birds when they get frightened will hit the side of the cage. If the support under the cage does not support every corner, the bird can knock the cage over, which may result in injuries to the bird.

Cage stands come in many variations, but the important thing to keep in mind is, if the cage sits on a stand, that the stand supports all four of the corners. If it is a pedestal stand, make sure that the base is wide enough that when bumped, that it does not rock, or fall over.

Bigger cages for large parrots need more support than the other birds. These birds will rock back and forth, dance and shake the cage more than the smaller birds because of their size. Many of the cages designed for the large birds come with a stand, or a wide based cage to ensure the safety of the bird. These large stands with the built in shelves offer the convenience of having storage on the bottom of the stand to store food and pet items. Large stands that are equipped with wheels, makes it easier to move the stands around to clean, or to move the cage within the home.

Bird cage stands with wheels can also move the bird cage outside the house into a garden or back yard. This will provide a special treat for your pet bird by giving it the experience of being in an outside environment so it can enjoy the sounds of nature in a protected setting. Bird cage stands are made with different materials so that in addition to providing safety for your pet bird they can fit into the decor of the room in which they are located.

So when your spouse tells you that "You're for the birds," if you have a good bird cage stand you can agree with her.
